The genera Pseudogymnoascus and Gymnoascus are revised. Pseudogymnoascus is considered to be distinct from Gymnoascus by the ellipsoidal to fusiform ascospores and by the morphology of the ascomatal initials. Three species of Pseudogymnoascus, including a new species, P. bhattii, are described. In the genus Gynmoascus 4 species are recognized. The relationship of Gymnoascus to Myxotrichum, Pectinotrichum, and Neogymnomyces and the systematic position of Auxarthron are discussed.
