In winter 1999/2000, two artificial nests for Ospreys were erected in the lake Naardermeer in the central Netherlands. This is the fourth site where such nests have been provided; the others were at Oostvaardersplassen, Biesbosch and Gooimeer. Up to 2000, Ospreys never bred in The Netherlands, although summering birds have been recorded during the last few years in suitable habitats.
