The first known breeding case of Peregrine Falcons in The Netherlands took place on the island of Schiermonnikoog in 1926. The nest was inside a wooden box on the ground in sparsely vegetated dunes amidst a colony of Herring Gulls Larus argentatus. The breeding site was discovered and photographed by G.A. Brouwer on 24 June 1926, and subsequently published in Ardea 16 (1927): 4-10, without providing details as to the precise location (to avoid disturbance). The photographs, and the identity of the exact location, were eventually published by Otto Kleinschmidt in his extensive monograph of Falco peregrinus in Berajah, Zoographia Infinite. The plates are reproduced here, and commented upon.
