On 30 October 2009, an adult female Goshawk was seen standing on a still struggling Barnacle Goose in the Oostvaardersplassen. She was already in the company of three Carrion Crows Corvus corone and a juvenile Buzzard Buteo buteo. After some 10 minutes she started plucking, but was disturbed by the Buzzard which claimed the prey without a fight (goose still alive) and started eating straight away. In the next few minutes, the prey was successively scavenged by another Buzzard and – finally – by a Red Fox Vulpes vulpes. The Goshawk departed to land some 50 m away from the Barnacle Geese flock, of which the nearest members shifted away from the hawk.
