A number of lesser known nature reserves in the region of De Meierij (province Noord Brabant) are described. These small, varied reserves are characterized by woods, woodland margins, flowery fields and dikes. The many different nectar plants and foodplants have attracted a widespread butterfly fauna. Species which are seen in large numbers include the Large Skipper (Ochlodes venata), Essex Skipper (Thymelicus lineola), Ringlet (Aphantopus hyperantus), Map Butterfly (Araschnia levana) and Gatekeeper (Pyronia tithonus).
