The identification of Eulimidae is often very difficult, although generally species of the genus Vitreolina do not give the greatest problems. Nevertheless, within this genus there are some unsolved obscurities e.g. the name Vitreolina incurva (Bucquoy, Dautzenberg & Dollfus, 1883). The three common species: V. philippii, V. antiflexa and V. curva are discussed in this paper and, in connection with the puzzling species V. incurva, their variability has been investigated. I have tried to demonstrate that no single one of these species, nor any one of their ‘formae’ could comprise V. incurva. V. incurva is likely to be a mixture of several of them (confirmed by Sykes (1903) and Warén (1983)). Contrary to the written comments, Warén (1983) presented a figure of V. incurva, although he writes: ‘...my identification of the specimen......is only tentative’. Very likely, it will remain tentative, because I have not found more published information about V. incurva since 1983.
