Management of the American bullfrog in Flanders. The American bullfrog has been present in Flanders since the beginning of the 90’s. Since then, the species has managed to settle in the valleys of the Grote Nete and the Dommel, Hoogstraten, Arendonk, Kasterlee and the Grootbroek. Since 2010, structured management has been executed, triggered by the Interreg INVEXO - project. Double fyke nets are mainly used. Also drawdown, filling of ponds and culling are used. Management efforts have resulted in eradication of the population at Hoogstraten. Besides management, Flanders also invests a lot in innovation, in particular the SMRT method and eDNA sampling.
