As with the very complex orchid genus Ophrys, in the last two decades the taxonomy of the genus Epipactis has received considerable attention, as the large number of its newly described species clearly shows. This is partly due to the increasing interest in this genus, by which its morphological variability has intensively been studied, but also because of the findings of phylogenetic studies. This article describes a new species, Epipactis veluwensis, which show distinct discriminating morphological features with separates it from related Epipactis species. The new species was found in a few sites in the Netherlands which were previously unknown to Epipactis specialists.
