Merodon batumicus, a syrphid fly new to the Dutch fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae) A female specimen of Merodon batumicus Paramonov, 1927 was collected in 1972 in the forested park around Huys te Warmont, to the north of Leiden (province of Zuid- Holland). The region is known for its bulb cultivating companies and fields. This is the first record for the Netherlands. Most likely the specimen was introduced with bulb material from Turkey. The species has been collected rarely within its range which comprises the Caucasus and Turkey.
