The Mediterranean Girdled snail Hygromia cinctella (Draparnaud, 1801), Fam. Hygromiidae, is becoming rapidly a common species inhabiting gardens and parks in towns in parts of the Netherlands. In the town of Purmerend, North-Holland, it is now known from 31 localities. Also elsewhere (Amsterdam, Haarlem) it is commonly encountered. More and more records of it are also turning up from other Western and Central European countries.
