Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) become more and more abundant in the Dutch Wadden Sea and settle on many different substrates apart from adult oysters. Settlement includes living periwinkles (Littorina littorea) as indicated by the picture made at low tide on the island of Texel the 29th of May 2008, showing several periwinkles in situ all encrusted with an oyster.
