De taxonomie van sieralgen: huidig kennisniveau en pleidooi voor een inhaalslag

Compared to other groups of algae, knowledge of the taxonomy of desmids is lagging behind. The number of taxonomists working on this group is very limited, the relevant literature is very fragmented and recent, critical monographs are virtually absent. In order not to increase the taxonomic confusion, we need to catch up. It is important that an integrated, so-called polyphasic approach is used. Developments in other groups of algae can serve as an example.
