On the herpetofauna of the Frisian islands in the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark The Frisian Islands are comprised of a di!erent herpetofauna compared to the neighbouring mainland. This fauna is less diverse and the species are unevenly distributed across the islands. Systematical surveys are lacking for most of the West Frisian islands. From many islands the historical species composition is unknown. Introduction of native and non-native species, both unintentional and deliberate, have occurred on multiple occasions. Many introductions escape notice, their success is varying and can be temporary. In this paper the present situation is listed and the current distribution of the herpetofauna is discussed.
