Exotische elritsen (Poxinus) aanwezig in Nederland en België

Alien minnows (Phoxinus) present in the Netherlands and Belgium The genus Phoxinus is known for its cryptic diversity. Molecular studies are recently revealing undetected taxonomic complexity. Phoxinus populations in the Netherland, Belgium and Germany were studied to know what species are present. For this purpose, the barcoding region cytochrome oxidase I was analysed. The study found four different Phoxinus species/lineages occurring in Belgium and the Netherlands: P. phoxinus, P. csikii, P. septimaniae and the genetic lineage P.cf. morella. While the first seem to be native the other three were probably introduced. Altijd al een buitenbeentje op de verspreidingskaart van de elrits in Nederland: de populatie in de Verloren beek. Dit leidde tot speculaties over een herkomst vanuit viskwekerijen uit het verleden. Om hier meer kennis over te krijgen is een genetisch onderzoek uitgevoerd, waarbij ook andere populaties in Nederland en België onder de loep genomen zijn. Daaruit blijkt dat niet één, maar tenminste drie elritssoorten aanwezig zijn in onze contreien.
