Eusaurosphargis was an armoured diapsid reptile with a deep skull and a remarkably ‘box-shaped’ trunk. It represents a rare faunal component in Middle Triassic shallow marine palaeoassemblages of Europe and is known only from a few more-or-less complete specimens (Scheyer et al., 2017). The holotype of Eusaurosphargis dalsassoi is a disarticulated but largely associated skeleton of a single individual recovered from lagoonal deposits of the latest Anisian Besano Formation at Cava di Besano in northern Italy (Nosotti & Rieppel, 2003). A mostly articulated juvenile specimen of E. dalsassoi was recently described from the early Ladinian Upper Prosanto Formation of Ducanfurgga in eastern Switzerland (Scheyer et al., 2017).
