Vondsten van tropische kauri’s in Nederland

Finds are reported of the cowrie Monetaria moneta from Stavenisse polder in the province of Zeeland. Most likely they date back to the 17th, 18th or early 19th century and were transported from the Maldives by the Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC). In African countries these shells were used as currency.
