Lobatus gigas (Linnaeus, 1758) (Gastropoda, Strombidae) in Shark Bay?
Spirula , Volume 379 p. 37- 37
On October 16th a Dutch newspaper carried an article on a recently discovered behaviour by dolphins in Shark Bay, Western Australia. Along with this article there was a cartoon that beyond doubt illustrated a specimen of Lobatus gigas. Confusion arose as this might reflect a recent invasion of this Caribbean species into Australian waters. However, it turned out to be an incorrect interpretation of the word “Conch” that appeared on a BBC news site that also covered this remarkable behaviour by these sea mammals.
