In August 2022, a healthy female of the European black widow Latrodectus tredecimguttatus was found on the underside of a caravan in Lochem (province of Gelderland). Two months earlier, the caravan stood on a campsite in Croatia, which is without doubt the origin of the spider. It is the first record of this species in the Netherlands. In the literature, imports in other countries could not be found. Latrodectus tredecimguttatus is one of the few European spiders of medical importance, as the bite can cause long-lasting illness.
