In the Dutch province of Limburg the Toothless whorlsnail (Columella edentula) occurs in two, quite distinct biotopes. One of these can be described as marshes and banks of brooks and rivulets, often grown with Lesser pond-sedge (Carex acutiformis) or Common reed (Phragmites australis). The other biotope includes overgrown places (often on slopes and banks) where (ground)water is not present near the surface, but where humidity may be retained between humus and vegetation (e.g., Common ivy Hedera helix). Shells of Toothless whorlsnails from the two biotopes did not reveal distinctive characteristics.
