Annually in 2009, 2010 and 2011 the site of the former burnt-down sawmill ‘the Friendship’ in Monnickendam, North-Holland, the Netherlands, was investigated for the presence of terrestrial snails and slugs. This survey was triggered by two reasons. First, the earlier and unexpected finding of very large mixed populations of Clausilia bidentata and Alinda biplicata at this location. Second, the advanced plans to build on this site a private house and a care-hotel for recovering patients. Thus far 25 different species were recorded of which indeed the two Door snails were the most important ones.
