In 2010 during an archaeological excavation 35 soil samples, with a total volume of 86 litres of loess, were collected in Sittard-Geleen (province of Limburg, the Netherlands). In these samples, taken between 40 and 100 cm below the surface of an arable field, we found 35 shells of Lucilla scintilla with the (dead) anima! and 77 empty shells.
