Discovery of a new population of Desmoulin's whorl snail Vertigo moulinsiana in the province of Groningen

In February 2013 a new population of Desmoulin's whorl snail Vertigo moulinsiana (Dupuy, 1849) was discovered on the banks of lake Schildmeer, province of Groningen. All specimens were found on Carex riparia, which grows in reed beds near the waterline. Much more widely spread along the entire lake lives the Marsh whorl snail Vertigo antivertigo (Drapamaud, 1801 ), which also inhabits drier reed beds
