Pelican’s foot Aporrhais pespelecani recovered dead at Gorishoek and alive from the Oosterschelde, province of Zeeland
Spirula , Volume 395 p. 188- 188
The beach of Gorishoek on the Oosterschelde river is renowned for yielding ‘exotic’ species, many introduced by mollusc cultures, others as fossils. In August and September 2013 many specimens of fresh-looking Pelican’s feet Aporrhais pespelecani (Linnaeus, 1758) were recovered. Moreover, on 8 September 2013 diver Stefan Verheyen observed a living specimen in the Oosterschelde near Gorishoek. Parallel recovery of Tridonta elliptica (Brown, 1827) at Gorishoek suggests a north- European, perhaps Danish origin of these species.
