Spirula , Volume 396 p. 3- 5
The White garden snail Theba pisana pisana (Müller, 1774) originates from the coasts of the Mediterranean and Black Seas. The species currently also occurs along the European coast of the Atlantic Ocean. In the Netherlands the species was found for the first time in 1961 in Domburg (province of Zeeland), where the species was introduced intentionally. It took several years before the species reached the northern provinces of the Netherlands (i.e., the province of North-Holland). Nowadays the snail is also found more inland, sometimes even in industrial areas. This article provides some general information about the White garden snail and its dispersion in the Netherlands is updated.
