This issue of Spirula co-celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Netherlands Malacological Society and the 400th issue of Spirula, the first issue of which appeared in 1934 under the name ‘Correspondentieblad’.Abrief description is provided on the history of the periodical. Reference is made to selected papers from issues 100, 200 and 300 of the ‘Correspondentieblad’ covering topics from continental and recent and fossil marine malacology. Elsewhere in this issue these papers are revisited and expanded with current knowledge. Eventually the future perspective of Spirula is briefly addressed.
