DNA research revealed that Aeolidia papillosa, a nudibranch species with a world-wide distribution in temperate water, harbours a cryptic species: Aeolidia filomenae sp. nov. This is a new species for the Netherlands. The two species can be distinguished from each other based on the radulas and reproductive systems, but the external morphological differences are not very clear.
