Slakken van het natuurgebied De Brand in Udenhout. Onderzoeksresultaten uit 1973 vergeleken met 2007 en 2012

After over 30 years the mollusc fauna in eight different deciduous woods in De Brand, an area near the town of Tilburg (province of Noord-Brabant), was reassessed. In 1973 soil samples were taken from sites of 50x50 cm. In 2007 and 2012 similar samples were taken from virtually the same spots. In 1973 De Brand was predominantly an agricultural area that now has been converted into a national park which is part of National Park ’De Loonse en Drunense Duinen’. The status of most areas has remained remarkably identical; only in two groves the poplar trees were cut and not replanted, but also these plots remained wooded areas. Yet there have been interesting changes in the malacofauna possibly because of drainage, inflow of polluted water, a permanently high water level, and the ageing of the woods.
