Some remarkable finds in fishing nets from the 10th expedition 'Duik de Noordzee Schoon'
Spirula , Volume 414 p. 54- 55
The 10th expedition of the foundation ‘Duik de Noordzee schoon’ (Dive and clean the North Sea) to the Dutch part of the North Sea in September 2016 generated some remarkable observations of mollusc species. For the first and second time respectively, specimens of Lamellaria perspicua (Linnaeus, 1758) and Crisilla semistriata (Montagu, 1808) were found alive in the Dutch part of the North Sea. Lamellaria perspica was already known from the Netherlands. Previously it was found alive in the Oosterschelde and Westerschelde in the south-western part of the country, but it is new to the Dutch part of the North Sea. The first observation of live specimens of Crisilla semistriata in the Netherlands was made in 2013 on the ship wreck of SS Tubantia. During this 10th expedition living specimens were found on six other ship wrecks in the Dutch part of the North Sea. Also living specimens of Onoba semicostata (Montagu, 1803) were collected in the Dutch part of the North Sea. The last time this species was found there was in 1964. All specimens were collected in September 2016 in abandoned fishing nets on ship wrecks, brought ashore by the divers participating in this expedition.
