On April 6th 2018 a fossil valve of the arctic and high boreal cardiid Serripes groenlandicus (Mohr, 1786) has been found on the Dutch Wadden Sea island Schiermonnikoog. It represents the first documented find from the Wadden islands. An early pleistocene age is suggested, based on finds in numerous borehole samples from the Netherlands that originate from the Pretiglian cold stage. The valve could not be assigned to one of the subspecies as recognized by Kafanov.
