Since 2003, a population of the Ear-shaped glass snail Eucobresia diaphana has been studied in forest ‘de Scheeken’ (municipality of Boxtel and Best, province of Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands). This snail species is active in winter and can withstand the cold very well. In the summer these snails hide in the ground to escape from heat and drought. Because in the Netherlands the summer of 2018 was extremely dry and hot, in the following winter it was investigated whether the population of Ear-shaped glass snails had survived these extreme summer conditions. On January 5, 2019, only three living specimens were found, indicating that the species had survived the dry summer, but that the population size had decreased considerably.
