In 1998 the island of Zanzibar was visited. Several spots on the island were investigated for mollusks. Zanzibar proved to be a beautiful island to observe marine life, as the tidal differences are rather large which results in interesting tidal plains to explore. The area best explored was close to our hotel, situated at the SE side of Zanzibar island at Jambiani. The result of our collecting activities from this area is a species list of shell-bearing mollusks with a total of 457 species: 5 chitons, 388 gastropods (of which 15 terrestrial) and 64 bivalves.
