Zwaluwvleugel Pteria hirundo op een aangespoelde viskist op Texel

On the 14th of October 2020 Sabien Bosman found a fish crate on the beach near pole 9 on the Dutch Wadden Island of Texel. This fish crate was handed over to the author who placed it in the sea aquarium at Ecomare. The crate contained a lot of species, among others Goose barnacles Lepas anatifera, Red-eyed squat lobster Galathea intermedia, Columbus crab Planes minutus, the oyster Striostrea denticulata and a bivalve which could not be immediately determined. When this undetermined mollusc died, pictures of the shell were taken and shared with Hannco Bakker in Naturalis, who determined the specimen as the European wing oyster Pteria hirundo. This represents the fourth record for this species in the Netherlands and it is the first adult specimen ever recorded from a Dutch beach.
