Presence of the Smooth jet slug Milax gagates (Draparnaud, 1801) on my allotment in Alphen aan den Rijn anatomically confirmed
Spirula , Volume 432 p. 11- 12
In 2020 a dark slug was encountered in the author’s allotment in Alphen aan den Rijn (province of Zuid-Holland). Consulted experts agreed on a Milax species but stated that determination at species level would require anatomical dissection of the reproductive organs. Dissection was eventually performed in 2021 by Dr. Heike Reise in the Senckenberg Museum für Naturkunde Görlitz, Germany. The specimen was determined by her as the Smooth jet slug Milax gagates (Draparnaud, 1801). Possibly the species was introduced in the allotment with plants purchased from a commercial supplier.
