Aliger gigas (Linnaeus, 1758), the story of the Queen conch
Spirula , Volume 433 p. 15- 19
This paper describes the distribution and biology of the Queen conch Aliger gigas (Linnaeus, 1758) and its intense use by humankind. As a consequence populations diminished, the species became legally protected and attempts were made to replenish populations with cultivated juveniles. However, thus far with little success, and time runs out to re-establish vital populations of this species. Nevertheless, cultivated specimens may become available for consumption and recipes are provided to enjoy Queen conch meat.
