Eerste gevallen van erythrisme bij vuursalamander in Vlaanderen

First records of erythrism in fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) in Flanders, Belgium. Erythrism, the orange-red discolouring of amphibian skin is a rare colour anomaly in fire salamanders (Salamandra salamandra). Red colouration is normal in some southern European subspecies of fire salamander, but is almost absent in the north-western subspecies S. s. terrestris. This article describes the first recorded Flemish cases of erythrism in the fire salamander in an isolated relic populationin the Belgian province of East Flanders. A disruption in the pigment cells is the most likely cause for this recessive inheritable colour anomaly
