This is the first part of an article devoted to ammonites from the Lower Cretaceous of the German-Dutch border region between Rheine, Bentheim and Winterswyk. Only rare, or especially interesting examples have been selected for discussion (For more common finds the reader is referred to the geological guidebook of the area, by the same author, E.Kemper1964). This part deals with giant forms from the Noricum-Sandstone (LowerHauterivian near Bentheim) Endomoceras and Crioceras.
