For the viewing of thin sections from igneous or fossil bearing rocks a projection apparatus, which must be cooled very well, can be used. It is possible to mount the nicols behind the thin section (polarizer) and before the lens (analyser). Projection of fossils gives excellent results. Because the entire thin section is visible, the objects, for example foraminifera, can be compared with each other or with pictures from literature. It is very easy to make photographic reproductions.
