This article, based on five weeks fieldwork preceeded by a literature study of several months, comprehensively deals with the geology and the paleontological contents of the cliffs and beaches between Lyme Regis and Seatown, Dorset, England. Attention is focussed on Mister S. Barney Hansford of Charmouth and his glorious fossil collection. Addidional information is given on the fossilcontents of some quarries outside the fieldwork area and the article is concluded with some critical remarks concerning factors which influence the collection of fossils in the area concerned.
