A description has been given of the geological history of the valley of the East-Maas river in South Limburg. The valley is situated along the northern border of the Ardennes peneplain. In this valley two terraces can be recognized: the Kosberg terrace which has a Pliocene age and the Simpelveld terrace from Pleistocene age
