Editorial preface to Mr. P.A.M. Gaemers’ paper

Although only few people have carefully read his manuscript, Mr P. A. M. Gaemers’ ideas on the evolution of Gadidae otoliths have been the subject of criticism, even before they were published. In close co-operation with the author the original text of his paper has recently been improved at several places without touching, however, the essential thoughts.
