Nomenclatoral or numerical taxonomy ? An example of both methods is given by examination of the Lepidocyclina’s of five samples from the Oligo-Miocene of East Java and Madura. Their mutual stratigraphical position was exactly known. The names of the species were determined with the aid of three different determination tables. The biometrical investigations yielded percentage numbers indicating the evoltionary stage of the Lepidocyclina's. The nomenclatural method appears to be not so subjective as was expected. The numerical method gave an age determination which is more exact than the one obtained by a nomenclatoral research.
