To obtain a standard profile of the Rupelian deposits near Winterswijk (Netherlands) samples were collected in a boring. Such a profile could be important for comparing samples from Rupelian deposits obtained from other borings in this region. It might be possible for instance to recognize the corresponding part by comparing samples from a short handboring to the standard profile. In this way an estimate can be made of the maximum thickness of the deposits. Unfortunately the boring could not be finished but a thorough description could be made of the opper 31.70 meters of the Rupelian. An extract of this description is given for the purpose of distinguishing certain layers with the same easily recognizable structure. Furthermore a number of sections which might be recognizable in shorter borings is roughly described. The coarseness of the sandfraction of the samples appears te be useful for comparison too.
