In a road-cut for the new provincial motorway Maastricht-Heerlen near Valkenburg (province of Limburg, the Netherlands) sediments of Oligocene and Quaternary age are exposed. A lithological description is given of the Oligocene deposits. Because of the complicated tectonical structure this description was composed from several sections that were correlated in the field. The following lithostratigraphical units are present (from top to bottom): Sands and Marls of Oude Biezen, Clay of Henis, Valkenburg Deposit and Grimmertingen Sands. Brief information on the fossil content is given.
