With the help of sedimentary structures and fossils a paleoecological reconstruction of the Late Pliocene strata is given. In this part the Sands of Kallo and the Sands of Kruisschans are treated, The deposits are generally regressive and have been laid doen in an open marine environment. The presence of an approximately W-E running coast south of Kallo can be concluded fron paleoslopes and directions of cross-beddings and channels. During the deposition of the Sands of Kallo sea—depth was at least 10-20 m. The Sands of Kruisschans were deposited at a depth of less than 10 m.
