A large number of vertebrate bones (mainly cetaceans, pinnipeds, birds and fishes) was collected during the construction of a water-reservoir at Broechem (province of Antwerp, Belgium). This paper deals with the stratigraphy of the Caenozoic beds in this temporary exposure. It is demonstrated that the bones occur mainly in a gravel probably underlying the Kattendijk Formation (Early Pliocene). A molluscan fauna in mould preservation from this gravel is described as well.
