The stratigraphical distribution of 45 otolith species in the Central Paratethys and supplements to the suggestion of the otolith zones in this region are presented in this paper. First of all relationships of the otolith faunas of the Central Paratethys and the Boreal region can be demonstrated in the Diaphus longirostris Zone (corresponding to the Lattorfian type and the sections between Lattorfian and Rupelian type) and in the lower part of the Lampanyctus ? latirostratus Zone (may be corresponding to the Reinbekian). The following subjects are presented to discussion: first appearance of the Potamoschistus and Gobius (?) otoliths and their relation to the problem of the Oligocene- Miocene boundary and the definition of phylogenetic zones according to the evolutionary line Dapalis formosus – D. curvirostris – D. crassirostris in the Perialpine and Pericarpathian Basins.
