The article deals with a maxillary fragment and an atlas ascribed to Crocuta crocuta spelaea (GOLDF.) These specimens, including a distal fragment of a right humerus ascribed to Crocuta sp. were dredged from the flatlands of the river IJssel at Giesbeek (52° N.lat., 6°.04’ E.long.) Some characteristics of the dentition and some remarks on the way of life of the hyena are given.
