Konservierung des interglazialen waldelefanten-skelettes von Crumstadt und perspektiven seiner Ausstellung

The elements of a skeleton of the straighttusked elephant were hardened in a vacuum tank by two different materials. For large and compact bones Mowilith dissolved in ethylalcohol was used with good success. The tusk as well as the ribs were hardened by epoxide resin. For the first time bones of this size were treated in this manner. In addition some aspects concerning the mounting of the skeleton and its exhibition are pointed out.
