In this article the taxonomy of fossil elefants is given according to DUBROVO (1985). Three genera are distinghuished: Archidiskodon, Mammuthus and Palaeoloxodon. The authors discuss the differences between Russian and Dutch (North Sea) fossil elefant finds. They also give a review of correlations of the Plio-Pleistocene of the Soviet Union and that of the Pleistocene in Western Europe.
