The Zuurland borehole near Brielle, which can be distinguished in boreholes Zuurland – 1, Zuurland – 2 and Zuurland – 3, has yielded much interesting material in the field of palaeontology. In this article some preliminary results of a special fossil-bearing layer are discussed. This layer is situated at a depth of about 43 metres below the surface and can be attributed to the Waalian Age. The material from this layer is older than the Maasvlakte material and more recent than the material from Tegelen (Tiglian).
